The Special Needs Classes are an integral part of Bridgeview Public School. There are 3 unique programs for students who have various disabilities.  Mrs. McLeod teaches the students with developmental disabilities.  Mrs. Turner teaches students who are medically fragile, focusing on the deaf and blind.  Miss Luttrell teaches the medically fragile students with multiple exceptionalities.

We strive to meet the students' academic, physical, emotional, cognitive, social and health needs, on an individual basis. Therefore, the programs are tailored to meet the individual needs of each student.

The classes serve as a training facility for students from a variety of disciplines such as:

     Secondary School Co-op

     Early Childhood Education

     Child and Youth Worker

     Social Service Worker

     Developmental Service Worker

     Massage Therapists

      Music Therapists

     Art Therapists

     Nursing

Special Needs classrooms provide an excellent opportunity for students to be exposed to a number of career paths.

At Bridgeview they will observe:

The students enrolled in the Bridgeview Special Needs classes are integrated with their age peers to varying degrees. Some are placed with their grade level for part of the day and some for age appropriate activities, such as Art or Physical Education time. We also have a "Special Friends" program. Students of various grade levels, volunteer to help out with our students or, simply, to be their friends.

There are many advantages to being a part of the Special Needs classrooms.  You will see programs for multiple exceptionalities, deaf blind, and developmentally disabled students in a regular setting, and state of the art equipment. There are computer programs, adapted toys, communication devices, and our amazing snoezelen room.  Our students also participate in weekly swimming, bowling, massage therapy and pet therapy programs.

You will also observe a variety of disciplines working together as a team, to provide the best possible experiences for our Special Needs students.
